Guinea Pig Temperature

Guinea pigs can get heatstroke very easily. They also get very cold. Guinea pigs which live outside should ideally be able to come inside when the temperatures exceeds this range.

Celsius: 10-30 degrees

Fahrenheit: 86-50 degrees

That range should be okay, but outside that limit you should seriously consider brininging them inside.

Are Guinea Pigs Related to Pigs?

Why are guinea pigs called pigs? They are not related to them, so why? They are probably pigs because of the noises they make which sound abit like pigs. They are called "guinea" because they were traded for guineas, which is a type of currency from sometime in the past.

You can ask questions

If you like, leave a comment asking about guinea pigs and on my next post I will answer it.

Can Guinea Pigs eat Zucchini?

This is very interesting. Some guinea pigs like zucchini and others hate it. My guinea pigs won't even nibble on it, but it isn't poisonous. If they have never eaten it before and you want them to like it, take them on your lap and offer a small piece to them. However, if they continually refuse just give it up.

Guinea Pigs and Dogs

Can guinea pigs and dogs get along with one another? Some dog breeds are more suited to this than others. Here is a list of how different kinds of breeds of dogs get along with guinea pigs (generally, this is only true for the majority of dogs).

  • Sporting breeds, like terriers and hounds. They are likely to view a guinea pig as prey and be tempted to hunt it. But they can be trained not to.
  • Herding/working dogs, like collies. These dogs might like to protect the guinea pig from harm and herd it.
  • Toy breeds, like poodles. They might think of the guinea pig as an equal because of their similar size and get along well with it, or simply ignore it.
If your dog has trouble withthe guinea pig introduce them to each other in neutralterritory with you close at hand. If you have any further inquiries, just leave a comment. You don't need a Google Account, anyone can comment as "Anonymous" or whatever you want.

Don't leave your guinea pig alone with your dog unless you are very sure they get along well.

Question:Should i get a 1 year old female guinea pig (who is used to being alone) and a 2 months old guinea pig, and keep them together?

Should i get a 1 year old female guinea pig (who is used to being alone) and a 2 months old guinea pig, and keep them together?

Dear Anonymous,

It depends on their disposition mostly. Usually sows get along well, so there probably wouldn't be much of a problem, but if any of them is rather feisty introduce them in a habitat (could just be a cardboard box with hay in it or something) which neither of them know. Follow the directions on the post about introducing an old boar to a young boar, and hopefully you'll get by fine.

I have introduced a few young and old sows to each other. One of the times, the older was used to being alone, but they were both quite cooperative with each other and settled in together fine. My two boars (they are more territorial, but I'll use them as an example) were introduced to each other and were fighting a lot at first due to the elder not being quite willing to share with the younger. I kept them apart, but allowed them little interactions with one-another regularly; they made friends and are now living together quite comfortably.

I think females would get along fine, introduce them properly and hopefully they'll soon be best friends! I've never had problems with females.

Question: If guinea pigs like to eat toast

Dear Anonymous,

In answer to your question, Guinea pigs can eat toast! But don't give it to them, it's quite unhealthy. Especially toast with spread on it.

When sows are pregnant, it is okay to give them some bread soaked in milk. But not toast soaked in milk!
